The Past Simple is used to talk about actions that happened and finished in the past.
Regular verbs end in –ed:
play → played
watch → watched
clean → cleaned
Irregular verbs have a special past form:
go → went
see → saw
eat → ate
have → had
did not + base verb
I did not (didn’t) go.
She didn’t eat.
Did + subject + base verb
Did you watch the film?
Did they travel?
We use it for:
Finished past actions I visited my grandmother yesterday.
Past habits (no longer true) He played football when he was young.
Change the verb in brackets to the Past Simple.
She (watch) a movie last night.
They (go) to the beach yesterday.
I (not / eat) breakfast this morning.
We (visit) our cousins last weekend.
He (buy) a new phone.
The students (not / understand) the lesson.
My mother (cook) a delicious meal.
I (see) my friend at the supermarket.
Did you (finish) your homework?
Where did they (travel)?
