Basic Rule

  • Use “a” before words that begin with a consonant sound.
  • Use “an” before words that begin with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).

Examples:

I have got a cat and a dog.

She bought four eggs and a bag of rice.

My dad is a doctor.

She has a black dress.

In my bag, there is an apple, a banana, and an orange

📝 HAVE GOT / HAS GOT

“Have got” is used to talk about possession (things we own or relationships we have).


1️ Affirmative (positive)

  • Have got = possess / own
